As independent record labels go we are really only minnows in a sea of sharks, killer whales and sea snails. This can get you down sometimes when you stop and think that Assorted Records, although having done some cool stuff is still pretty much as small as indie label gets within the music industry. As far as the Stafford music scene goes I like to think that we do our little bit to help things along, but theres also a lot more to do, in our quest to strive for our music to get itself heard amongst the cacophony of indie music out there.
Its not too difficult nowadays to release your own independent music yourself, using the plethora of magic tools that are going about. So why do people need record labels? Of the rest of the majors collapsed in the that every increasing blackhole which is underneath them then no the music industry would not just cease to be. After all at that sort of level what are record labels? Just a front for a large collection of in the know and connected people with lots of money, not that that doesn't come in handy from time to time.. .
We like to think that representing the uk independent music scene means more than throwing lots of money at things, for us it means trying to help out the emerging musicians that just want a push in the right direction, whether its finding bigger and better live shows to play or finding somewhere to record their music. As an independent record label we are more of a collective of like minded people that have a joint musical aim, and help each other out in order to get to where we want to be.
That is all….
